Ok — you must have at least two people to complete this challenge:

The challenge is to draw a picture using only perpendicular lines. The rules: you may not speak to each other before or during the challenge about the challenge and you may only draw one line at a time. The next person can only draw a connecting perpedicular line. You have 24 hours to complete this challenge.

National Children’s Book of the Year Contest

Alexandria, VA - April 9, 2010 - The National Association of Elementary School Principals Foundation (NAESPF) has launched a contest for aspiring children’s book authors. The winning authors will have their books endorsed by the NAESP Foundation and published by Charlesbridge Publishing.

Prospective authors may choose to publish a picture book or a chapter book written for children from 3-16 years of age. Five finalists will be announced in each category and two winners will be announced at the 2011 Annual Convention and receive a contract to publish his/her books.

Judging will be based on content, originality, and age-appropriateness of the manuscript.

IGES EARTH DAY PHOTO & ESSAY CONTEST (5-8)
Students in grades 5-8 are invited to be part of this unique national effort to capture our changing world. Take a photograph sometime from Monday, April 19 through Friday, April 30, 2010 (Earth Day itself is April 22) of something changing in your local environment: your backyard or neighborhood, near your school or in a local park, or off in the distance toward the horizon.
Students must also research and write an essay (400 words or less) that answers the following questions about the change taking place, its cause and impact and how it may look in the future. The first place winner receives a new digital camera! Amphibian populations worldwide are in the midst of a mass extinction crisis, yet most people are completely unaware. Further, few students receive any amphibian extinction education in their schools. The SAVE THE FROGS! Essay Contest is designed to give teachers an easy way to get their students involved and interested in amphibian conservation…though you don’t have to be a student to enter!

Bob the Bunny’s Environmental Cartoon Competition - Volvo

Volvo’s Bob the Bunny competition is aimed at younger adventurers between the ages of 10 and 12. To enter, form a team of one to three members and then identify a local environmental issue. Next, create a cartoon illustrating the issue and actions you might take to solve it. The winning team will be sent to the Volvo Adventure final.

The deadline is February 28, 2011.
