Nassau County, NY has its very own Poet Laureate.  What does that mean, you ask?  According to Merriam-Webster, in the U.S., a poet laureate is someone (a poet) who is appointed by the Library of Congress, for about a year, to serve as a consultant and to promote poetry; a poet who is seen as representative and worthy of honor for his/her achievements.

So, we have one of those.  His name is Maxwell Corydon Wheat, Jr.
