Global Student Effort to Collect Water and Hydrology Data (March 22-26)

The GLOBE Program has announced a global student effort to collect water quality and hydrology data from around the world during the week of March 22-26, as part of World Water Day (March 22). Teachers and students are encouraged to use this data as a foundation for research and inquiry about the state of the world’s water. The results of these GLOBE efforts will be showcased at Live Earth events around the world in April 2010 (See ‘GLOBE Partners with Live Earth’ under ‘Previously Broadcast’).

Water around the world is in trouble!  Every community’s essential water supply is threatened each day by a multitude of sources that can contaminate it.  As an essential component of our daily lives, water quality needs to be assessed and addressed now and in the future.  For some communities, water appears to be clean, but it is not safe.  For others, it is visibly undrinkable.  In all cases, water can be polluted both at the source and along the way to our faucets and water fountains. Teen Writing Contest: 2nd Annual Keep the Drive High School Journalism Awards

The Allstate Foundation (TAF) is calling for teens to either write an article and have it published in their school newspaper or write and produce a broadcast news segment for their high school news station to help raise awareness about the dangers of texting while driving.  Students can win up to $3,000 in cash.
