Great American Teacher Awards -2010

The Ron Clark Academy’s Great American Teacher Awards honor teachers who best demonstrate exemplary teaching that is challenging, innovative and creative. Teachers can be nominated by their schools, colleagues, students, or anyone else who recognizes their outstanding work in the classroom (including themselves). Nominees must be currently employed by a public or private school, at any grade level or subject preK-12, and planning to continue in an active teaching status. A minimum of three years teaching experience is required.

$30,000.00 Writing Tournament - July 2010

The writing tournament will have between 8 and 10 rounds. In each round except the first one, we expects to eliminate half of the participants. Anything submitted to the writing tournament will remain on the iwriteit.com website for one year, although under our normal revenue sharing model, the winner of the grand prize’s writings will remain on the site inperpetuity. All other works uploaded will remain the property of the author alone. The deadline for entry is July 1, 2010. A writer may enter by uploading any writing to the website. 2011 National Radon Poster Contest - KSU

2011 National Radon Poster Contest is sponsored by Kansas State University and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

Contest Calendar

  • 2011 Contest opens March 1, 2010 and closes October 31, 2010
  • Judging for national level entries will occur by November 19, 2010
  • Notification of national winners will occur by December 1, 2010
  • Notification of state winners chosen as part of the national judging will occur by December 15, 2010
  • Award Ceremony held January 14, 2011 in Washington, D.C.
  • 2011 Contest opens March 1, 2010 and closes October 31, 2010

The Prize: Trip to Washington, D.C. The first, second and third place national winners, a parent and a teacher (or sponsoring organization’s representative) for each place win an all-expenses paid trip to our nation’s capital. They will participate in an awards ceremony during which the winning entry is unveiled. The poster will also be reproduced and distributed nationally to promote radon awareness.

Eligibility Requirements: Children ages 9-14 are eligible. They can be enrolled in a public, private, territorial, tribal, DoD or home school -or through a sponsoring club, such as an art, computer or science club; scouting organization; or 4-H club.

Program Support: The National Radon Program Services at Kansas State University relies on the state radon contacts, as well as the territories and tribal nations, to make this contest a success. In order to encourage greater participation in the 2011 National Radon Poster contest, Kansas State University is making available up to $1,000 for every state, territory, and tribal nation that has a radon poster contest. Receipts and an invoice using a standard form are required to be submitted. This funding is to help off-set the costs of the conducting the contest and holding an award ceremony.

Poster Topics: Choose from the following five topics:

  • What is radon?
  • Where does radon come from?
  • How does radon get into our homes?
  • Radon can cause lung cancer.
  • Test your home for radon.

Judging Criteria:

  • Content accuracy
  • Visual communication of topic
  • Reproducibility
  • Originality

Artwork Requirements:

  • Be original
  • Must not have student’s name on the front
  • Should include a title on the front
  • Topic and title must be on the Artwork Submission Form (available at www.sosradon.org)
  • White paper - 12 x 18 and 8.5 x  11 sizes are preferred, but all submission sizes will be accepted (preferred size eases reproducibility)
  • Can be created with crayon, markers, paint (watercolor, tempera, acrylic), collage, photographs or computer graphics
    Lettering and message should be large enough to reproduce well, with all pencil markings erased
  • Copyrighted characters (such as Snoopy), product logos and trademarked or brand names cannot be used.
